- Rosenkrantz Tower dates back to medieval times. The tower was erected by the governor of Bergen Castle (Bergenhus), Erik Rosenkrantz, and served as a combined residence and fortified tower to Bergen
- Bryggens Museum is a cultural history museum based on finds made during the archaeological excavations at Bryggen between 1955 and 1972, showing the foundations of the city's oldest buildings from the 12th century on their original site
- The medieval Castle Håkon's Hall was built during the reign of King Haakon Haakonsson between 1247 and 1261. It was the largest and most imposing building of the royal residency in 13th century Bergen, then the political centre of Norway
- St. Mary's Church is the oldest building still existing in Bergen, from the first half of the 12th century and one of the most outstanding Romanesque churches in the country
- The Bergen Aquarium is one of the finest and most extensive collections of marine fauna in Europe
- The Arboretum, founded in 1971, occupies an area of 125 acres, part of which is planted with a variety of foreign trees and shrubs. Good walking in wooded surroundings and spots for swimming
Shopping
Bergen has always been a town of traders. For visitors, this means plenty of tempting shops - ranging from the small and specialised to large departmental stores. Among the largest shopping centres in the city centre are Kløverhuset in Strandgaten, Galleriet on Torgallmenningen and Bergen Storsenter near the bus and train stations and ByGarasjen Parking house. There is also a large selection of smaller shops all over the city centre. Good shopping streets are Bryggen, Øvregaten and Lille Øvregate, Vetrlidsallmenning, Torget and Vågsallmenningen, Strandkaien, Strandgaten and the area around the main square Torgallmenningen.
